Breast Cancer Surgeon & Women’s Health Warrior
Kristi Funk, MD is a board-certified breast cancer surgeon & physician, bestselling author, international keynote speaker and women’s health advocate. As an ambassador and avid contributor to the Pink Lotus Power Up community, Dr. Funk frequently authors Breast Cancer 101 blogs and provides instructional videos on breast health. She is also the host of the Cancer-Kicking! Summit and the newly launched Cancer-Kicking! PowWow podcast. Dr. Funk practices as a surgical breast specialist at the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Los Angeles, where she excels as an expert in minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment methods for all types of breast disease. She has helped thousands of women through breast cancer treatment, including well-known celebrities, like Angelina Jolie and Sheryl Crow, who have turned to her for her surgical expertise.
After graduating with distinction in Psychology from Stanford University in 1991, Dr. Funk received her medical degree from the UC Davis, School of Medicine, in 1996. She then completed her 5-year general surgery residency in Seattle, followed by a surgical breast fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she then thrived as a surgeon and Director of their breast center for another 7 years. In 2009, Dr. Funk opened the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Beverly Hills, which at the time became the first breast cancer center of its kind, fusing state-of-the art screening, genetic testing, diagnosis and surgical treatment with preventive strategies and holistic, compassionate care – all under one roof.
In 2013, Dr. Funk’s joint announcement with Angelina Jolie revealing her preventive double mastectomy garnered worldwide attention and furthered much-needed awareness regarding BRCA gene mutations, their causative association with breast and ovarian cancers, and the importance of genetic testing. In 2017, with awareness for genetic screening on the rise across the world, Dr. Funk broadened her attention to the more than 80% of breast cancers in the world that do not result from gene mutations or family history. She began work on her book Breasts: The Owner’s Manual, a bestseller now available in over 20 countries and 10 languages. Writing her book required a deep dive into thousands of clinical studies to back up her findings; Dr. Funk’s extensive nutritional science research caused her to expand the passion for her medical practice with the life-empowering Cancer-Kicking! program which teaches women (and men) how to maximally reduce their chances of facing cancer or any other controllable killer disease.
